Welcome to our jewelry making community: imagine, create, share, & inspire!

My first party was this past Saturday night. My sister-in-law was good enough to host for me.
I only ended up with 9 guests, but honestly, for my first party that was plenty! It was a great learning experience for me and having a smaller group was a great way to warm up.

Thanks to Lorri's book I was very organized. I had remembered to bring my tools and that came in handy!! Two guests asked me to change the side that the clasp was on the necklace they had selected to make it more "right-hand friendly". That is something that I will pay attention to going forward, and I will always bring my tools.

The table setup that I used was on the dining room table and the guests could walk around the table and shop from different sides. That was a great arrangement for me and for them. I was able to make a more dynamic display as well.
I did a short introduction of my company and the promotions I was offering. One of the guests suggested that I do my introduction at the jewelry table and do a tour of the product on the table. This way I could highlight the different features, show pieces that coordinate and have one of the guests try it on. She suggested that I use my hostess as the model as I walked around the table to showcase different pieces.
Another suggestion was for a "get to know you" activity.
She suggested that I have everyone select one thing from the table that they like and put it on. One at a time they can introduce themselves, say why they chose their piece and then I can use that opportunity to tell all of the party guests about the piece that she chose.
I LOVE THIS IDEA!!
I had a bingo game prepared which was fun, but a bit dull. Mostly the ladies just wanted to socialize and have their wine.

I chose a private area to do the money exchange and gift wrap. This turned out to be a nice way to keep the guests queued. One wasn't hanging over another as they were ready to make their purchase. It also gave me a private moment to chat with each lady and talk about booking a party, etc.

I did end up charging sales tax, which I wasn't sure whether I would do or not. I brought change in a cash box and it worked out great. No issues at all, and now I don't have to worry about taking from my own profit.

The party was an overall success. Each person bought at least two things. I was thrilled. I definitely was left feeling high by the experience and still two days later, I am itching to do it again.

For anyone who has questions, I would be happy to answer any I can!

I do a lot of chain and wire work, so most of the time my clasps are attached to the end of a chain with a jump ring. This made it easy for me to change the side that the clasp was on. As long as you are using a higher gauge jump ring, they remain secure once they are closed. I know, through experience, that some of the cheaper jump rings at a lower gauge can open easily causing the necklace to come apart. Crimping wire or thread is definitely a more secure way of ending a piece, but you may want to consider using a small jump ring to attach your clasp. However, if all of your necklaces are made for Righty's you may not have this problem!

Wow! That's wonderful, good for you! Each person buying 2 items is big. Thanks for sharing the great tips too. I have a beginners question. How do you change a clasp? I have mine crimped on and the thread beaded back through. I don't think I'd have enoug length to work with. Maybe I need to learn a new way to put clasps on ; )
