this is a question. I make "beaded chains" and necklaces with a hook or clasp for wearing with a pendant called the BioElectric Shield http://www.bioelectricshield.com The ones I make for women seem to last and last, but the few I've made for men break in 4-6 months. I'm using SoftFlex 49 strand 24m wire. I haven't seen the latest broken piece, but I'm going to guess that it broke at the crimp.

Does anyone have any suggestions on other materials I can use that will still go through a normal gemstone bead? Or different ways I can finish it off to reduce stress?

Another favorite source for basics...gemstone beads that are mostly fillers and the background to fabulous designs. Nothing fabulous or awesome, but some good quality. I order a lot of their round beads, nuggets, rondells, tubes (some of these are really great), silver filled round beads, plus sterling and Gold-filled basic filler beads. I've never ordered any of their plated beads simply because I don't order plate. Sign up for their newsletter and they run some great specials.

A lot of their product comes with a huge discount if you order 10 at a time.

Their checkout is strange...if you're using a coupon it shows a .20 discount....but don't worry, they calculate that manually and send you a real invoice with the full discount applied. Texas Beads http://tx-beads.com/

Due to the crazy price of silver and gold, I've found myself using more and more pewter. We have a gemshow here every two or three months, great and terrible at the same time, imagine shopping for everything in person that often!

One of the vendors has a huge table of pewter beads in bags, that sell 10 for $50. I love some of their stuff, but standing and poking through that mound to find duplicate bags of some of the beads is frustrating. I'll still do that, but I've started reordering online and the prices are still reasonable 6.79 I think per bag, and depending on style, I'm getting 8 to 200 or more per bag. They've got some really cool styles, and some perfect basics. Also I love their silver colored Toggle clasps, some are truly fabulous.

Ordering their gold, copper and bronze...just beware that they are Plated and the color either comes off or darkens a great deal. But the pewter stays fabulous and shiny. Shipping was only $2.99 flat rate nice!

Metal Beads on the Cheap

Metal Colored Glass Seed Beads

Let us face it already - metal is just outrageously priced right now! This is especially true of gold and silver. I remember back in the day when I could order loads of sterling silver or gold-filled wire and not think twice about the price. The same was true for metal beads that I could use as spacer beads when doing bead stringing. When stringing up beaded bracelets...

Owl Charm is a Hoot

Owl Charm

Remember back in the 70s when you could find all kinds of owl themed items? It seems owls are making a come back. This owl charm flew in from B'Sue Boutiques, and I have been mulling over a design for it for some time. He is made from brass and then has a rusty black finish. You can find out more about this metal finish in a video posted on the B'Sue Boutiques web site. As she suggests in the video, I took a polishing cloth and rubbed this charm to remove some of the black finish. I think I finally have figured out how I plan to use this guy, so stay tuned for an up-coming owl themed jewelry project.

Three Bezels Plus a Bonus

Cyndi Lavin's new bead embroidery e-booklet, Three Bezels Plus a Bonus, is available for downloading, and it only costs $1! In this new addition to her bead embroidery series of e-books, she includes 30 pages of instructions for three decorative bead embroidery bezels to stitch for 14mm Swarovski rivolis, plus step-by-step advice on how to bezel around an irregularly shaped cabochon. This booklet is aimed primarily at jewelry designers who are bead embroidery enthusiasts but who don't have a lot of experience in creating seed bead bezels. After covering the techniques, she includes a project tutorial that culminates in an amazing finished necklace.
